Dr. Brad Tinkle Advances Knowledge On Joint Hypermobility & Ehlers Danlos Syndrome With Multiple Publications Related to Heart and Migraine Issues
Dr. Brad T. Tinkle, best-selling author of “The Joint Hypermobility Handbook: A Guide for the Issues & Management of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Hypermobility Type and the Hypermobility Syndrome,” published by Left Paw Press, has once again furthered the knowledge of associated heart and migraine hypermobile issues with several publications.
Dr. Tinkle spearheaded a study to determine the prevalence, frequency, and disability of migraines in female patients vs. a control population. The findings are presented in a paper titled, “Joint hypermobility syndrome: A common clinical disorder associated with migraine in women.” Results indicated that the prevalence of migraine was 75% in joint hypermobility syndrome (JHS) patients vs. 43% in the control population. The study suggests that JHS is a clinical disorder strongly associated with an increased prevalence, frequency, and disability of migraine in females.
In collaboration with several colleagues, Dr. Tinkle studied the prevalence of cardiac findings in hypermobile and classic Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and provided longitudinal analysis of aortic root growth in a paper titled, “Cross-sectional and longitudinal assessment of aortic root dilation and valvular anomalies in hypermobile and classic Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.” The study concluded that, although aortic root size and mitral valve prolapse (MVP) are increased in patients with EDS, they tend to be of little clinical consequence. Echocardiography may still be warranted, but decreased frequency of screening in recommended.
A poster titled, “Lessons Learned: Myths and Facts about Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome” was presented by Dr. Tinkle during the American College of Human Genetics College in Vancouver Canada.
Dr. Tinkle will be speaking at the EDNF (Ehlers-Danlos National Foundation) conference on “Neck and Head Pain in EDS” in July.
